Novice Six Session Course Structure

1st Session

A full CBT course including all instruction, bike and gear use and certificate. For novice riders we allow a gradual familiarisation that gives more time to on site practice so you can safely master the machine control. People do learn at different speeds so we make sure that you have space, time and instruction that fits your personal needs.

2nd Session

125cc practice to build the confidence of the rider with the guidance of an expert DSA instructor. Again for novice riders we allow the CBT road ride to be be appropriately paced for their needs. CBT is concluded on this session so as not to "Rush" the process. We allow double the legally required time to get your pass certificate. This ensures that you get exactly the right level of instruction and practice time to enable a pass.

3rd and 4th Session

Introduction to the differences of the larger more powerful 500cc bikes. This is done in a safe environment and we are used to training complete novices. Then we follow more of the DSA sylabus. Your fully qualified instructor will introduce to all the elements that will be tested. You will become proficient in pulling away into traffic, overtaking, U-turns, emergency stops, making progress, roundabouts, gradients, hill starts, filtering, box junctions, correct position, making progress and more. You will be able to complete every manoeuvre that will be needed for the tests and to keep you safe. You will also have time to familiarise with what is required on module 1 and 2 of your tests. We practice all elements meticulously until you feel happy and prepared.

5th Session

More 500cc work polishing all you have learnt. Here you will have a chance to practice all the skills you have acquired and to iron out any rough edges. Your instructor will take you to a level exceeding that is required to pass your test. On this session your instructor will also take you for your Module One test - this lasts for aproximately 15 minutes. Here you will easily be able to put into practice all you have learnt.

6th Session

500cc final test day (Module 2). Your instructor will go over exactly what is needed for you to pass on the day. You will be taken out on a brief simulation of the test and given a chance to familiarise yourself and to practice key elements such as roundabouts, junctions, separation distances, pulling in and away procedures and key observation points. Then your instructor will accompany you to the test station, introduce you to your examiner and make sure you are happy. When you have passed they will accompany you back to base for a debrief and to receive your pass pack!

What do I need to attend?

You will need both parts of your provisional licence, be able to read a number plate at 20.5 metres, suitable clothing (we provide helmets, gloves and jackets) and you will need a basic understanding of the highway code and road signs. 4 and 5 sessions courses require a degree of prior experience. 6 session courses are aimed at total novices. You will need a motorcycle theory test to be passed at least 5 days before your final practical test.

What is theory test?

Motorcycle Theory test is not needed for CBT or training but is required at least 5 clear working days prior to full test. This is not provided by CAM Rider - you can book it from the links given below.

It is a computer based test run by the government at locations throughout the UK. Everyone wanting a full bike licence must have a motorcycle theory test pass - regardless of other tests taken.

Your theory test will consist of two elements:

  • Theory: Get at least 43 out of 50 on multiple choice questions based on highway code and rider safety.
  • Hazard perception: Video clips of traffic situations are played. You must click the mouse when you see a hazard emerging. Pass mark is based on proper reaction time.

Theory test is an external exam and not part of the CAM Rider courses - you can book it via www.dsa.gov.uk or call 0300 200 11 22. Don’t worry as it’s not too tricky if you spend a little time revising.
