Some very good reasons to pass your scooter test:
Riding around on a scooter with L-plates long term has several drawbacks:
Modern scooters are built abroad in countries where they don't have a requirement for L-plates - therefore when you slap them on your shiny new machine in the UK it looks pretty messy.
If one of your L-plates falls off and the police spot you, you can now be given 3 penalty points on your licence.
As a learner you can't carry a passenger
You are subject to constantly changing legislation which makes it ever more onerous and expensive to gain a full licence. If you pass your test you will be protected from future legislation.
Learners pay higher insurance premiums than qualified riders
If you take your practical test on a scooter (semi or fully automatic) of 120-125cc that is capable of 100kph, you will get a category A automatic licence. This means that you can ride any cc scooter as long as it is restricted to 33bhp for the first 2 years after passing. You can also carry a passenger and ride on motorways. There are many large scooters on the market today as large as 600cc which actually make fine touring machines and which are perfectly happy at motorway speeds.Thereafter you can ride automatic bikes of unlimited power without further testing.
If you subsequently wish to ride geared machines you need only take the practical test on such a machine. No need for another CBT and theory test.
