Direct Access or Standard Test

Standard Test

Aged 17 years plus, you can take the standard test. Here you do all your training and take your test on a 125cc motorcycle. On passing you get a full licence, but for the first two years you are restricted in power to 33Bhp. In practice this means you can take any bike to a motorcycle dealer and ask to have it restricted. The top speed and acceleration will be more modest, but still fun. After two years you don't need to do a thing, you simply are able to move up to unrestricted bikes.

Direct Access (DAS) Test

At Age 21 plus, you can start training on 125cc bikes then move up to finish your course and take your test on 500cc bikes. You need to be accompanied by a specially qualified instructor. When you pass your direct access test you can ride any bike of any size and power. There is no two year wait.
