The Final Practical Tests

The new two part test becomes law on 27th April 2009. The new test involves a 50KPH emergency swerve and 50Kph emergency stop as well as manoeuvres on a large off road site. Full module 1 detail page here

The current test is now two modules. Module 1 details page here Module 1 and 2 details are on this page.

The best way to pass your full test is to get us to book the Module 1 and Module 2 about eight days apart. Even though Camrider has an excellent first time pass rate (over 84% in 2009 for module 1), we want to make sure that if for any reason you get a "Second place" then you do not loose your test fees to the DSA.

Module 1 Costs £17.50 and Module 2 Costs £75. Camrider books and administers this for you, dealing with all the paperwork. Motorcycle tests are much more complicated to administer than the one off Car Test. Camrider make sure your training package fits seamlessly in with your tests and that you are at best advantage when you take them.

The candidate must present a valid CBT Certificate (DL196) and have a valid licence suitable for taking test. This normally means the plastic card with the counterfoil paper, or an old style licence with a valid passport. You will also need to have passed a motorcycle theory test at least five working days before you sit the exam.

Your CAM Rider instructor will get you ready for the test. They will first brief you on all you need to know for the day, then take you out to get comfortable on the motorcycle again. Next they will give you a brief mock test and let you practice key elements. Finally your instructor will take you to the test centre, get you parked up ok, introduce you to the examiner and make sure you are feeling happy and confident. When you have passed they will accompany you back to base for a well deserved celebration and a chance to pick up your pass pack!

Reporting for your practical test

You must bring the following items with you to both module 1 and module 2 of your test. If you do not, the Driving Standards Agency may refuse to carry out the test and you may lose your fee.

  • provisional licence and paper counterpart
  • valid DL196
  • valid theory test certificate
  • valid module 1 test pass certificate when presenting for module 2

What will the test include?

The new test will be completed in two modules. The specified manoeuvres conducted at specific speeds will be tested in module 1 on safe off-road sites.

These specified manoeuvres are:

  • at least two manoeuvres carried out at slow speed, including a slalom
  • at least two manoeuvres carried out at higher speed, of which one exercise should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) and one exercise avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)
  • at least two braking manoeuvres, including an emergency brake at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)

On the day of your module 1 test, you will be asked by the examiner to demonstrate your riding ability on either the left-hand or right-hand circuit.

If you demonstrate riding skills of a dangerously incompetent level during module 1, you will not be allowed to take module 2.

If you pass module 1 you will receive a test pass certificate which you must bring with you when you take module 2.

Module 2 of the test is made up of the eyesight test, road safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding. Road riding will cover a variety of road and traffic conditions and will also include normal stops, hill and angle starts.

Nearly passed - end of test

After the practical part of the test the candidate will be asked a question on 'balance when carrying a passenger'.

That’s it! After the test you are all done, and as long as you put into place all that you were taught on the course you will be a fully fledged biker!

If you are unlucky enough to have got second place, and need to have a re-test we can book that all in for you back at base.

During Jan - Oct 2009 Camrider had a pass rate of 84.1% - that compares to the national average of 57% apx for other training schemes, and 14% apx for those not taking formal training.
