Not needed for CBT but required to take full test. A computer based test run by the government at locations throughout the UK. Everyone wanting a full bike licence must have a motorcycle theory test pass - regardless of other tests taken.
Your theory test will consist of two elements:
- Theory:
Get at least 43 out of 50 on multiple choice questions based on highway code and rider safety. Some will be text only questions, some will have graphics or pictures.
- Hazard perception:
14 video clips of traffic situations are played. You must click the mouse when you see a hazard emerging. On at least one clip there will be two hazards..
To achieve a high score you'll need to respond to the developing hazard during the early part of its development. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five. You won't be able to review your answers to the hazard perception test; as on the road, you'll only have one chance to respond to the developing hazard. The pass mark for the car and motorcycle hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75
Theory test is an external exam and not part of the CAM Rider courses - you can book it via Book a theory test or call 0300 200 11 22 Don’t worry as it’s not too tricky if you spend a little time revising.
You do not need a theory test to take CBT, but you will need it five clear working days before your final practical riding test. You can practice the theory test using the computers at some of our training sites!
