About CAM Rider Cambridge

CAM Rider has been operating in Cambridge since 1977 and was originally part of the County Councils Road Safety initiative. From 1992 it was taken over by its current owner and Managing Director, Bernard Adams, with the help of the instructors working there and the Prince's Trust.

CAM Rider has been at the forefront of rider training and has won national awards for our business practices and is renowned for the quality of service.

For ten years Bernard represented CAM Rider as Chairman of The Motorcycle Rider Training Association (MRTA). This is part of the RMIF, Europe's largest Trade Association for the motorcycle and car sector. Bernard was also invited as a member of the Government Motorcycle Advisory Group, set up by Lord Whitty. This had a direct policy advising role for motorcycle training in the UK and Europe. We continue to be consulted on best practice and as advisors on motorcycle training policy.

Getting ready outside the offices

One of the best equipped sites in the UK

The Cambridge site has a large purpose built off road training area for new riders to be able to safely practice before venturing on the road. This is available seven days a week and is unique to CAMRider Cambridge

We have large warm classrooms, free tea and coffee, a canteen area, toilets and changing facilities, and a fully fitted workshop to keep the motorcycles in top condition. We do not operate from remote sites without facilities and the care and comfort of our customers is foremost in our minds.

There are computer systems for you to practice the theory and hazard perception test and a wealth of training aids. Only CAMRider can offer purpose built dedicated facilities to ensure you pass your test and enjoy the learning process in the Cambridge area.

As a centre of excellence the CAMRider Cambridge site has been visited by DSA officials, television crews and many road safety organisations as an example of best practice. We have featured on Fifth Gear, Anglia Television News, BBC News, Radio 4, Ride magazine, Motorcycle News Magazine and many more reporting our our industry leading training techniques and facilities.

review of CAM Rider

We believe that learner motorcyclists deserve the best possible environment to train in and that high quality machinery and equipment are not just an advantage, but are essential. In particular we are the only local company to use the New Yamaha XJ600 motorcycles that are complaint with the European Third directive and also have our own manufactured rider protection bars. We also use new fuel injected Yamaha YBR125cc motorcycles and our mopeds are all new Piagio Zip 50cc with a unique rider protection system. We are proud that we are the only regional company to utilise new machinery that has specifically designed rider safety equipment to help you through your test.

We also have a full new range of helmets, gloves and safety clothing for you to borrow free of charge whist you learn. You will find these at our dedicated learning centre where all of your training takes place from. The Instructors

All of the instructors; whether full or part time, joined CAM Rider with the aim of putting something back into motorcycling and with the hope of helping others to gain a similar enjoyment. All hold full DSA licences to teach the elements you require. We do not use unqualified staff or assistant instructors.

All CAMRider instructors have been through an extensive training program that lasts a minimum of six months to gain the first level qualification, and up to two years to become a lead instructor. The majority of instructors at CAMRider Cambridge have been with us for over six years - some for over 20 years. We have a dedicated training college based at our Sawston head office that manages all aspects of rider training and administers both the initial training and the regular ongoing check ups and professional development that is needed to ensure consistently great instructors. This is unique to CAM Rider and we are regarded by the DSA and Industry as a leading light in good practice and in high professional standards.
